INARI / Integrated Architecting Environment

Introduction

INARI is a three-year project launched in 2004. INARI project aims at the development of a new kind of tool environment for creating, managing and analyzing software architectures. Our vision is an integrated tool set which supports the description and enforcement of software architecture throughout the lifecycle of a system, integrated with existing design and programming environments. A particular focus area is the management of various cross-cutting concerns among software artefacts throughout the development process. Typical cross-cutting concerns are features, extension interfaces, global aspects like security, organizational concerns like team responsibilities etc. Currently, the developed prototype tool environment supports the specification, generation, checking and mining of such concerns, defined as an external structure which is linked to the appropriate software artifacts (like UML models, source code, and XML files). The project builds on and combines the results of the previous research projects carried out at TUT: UML++, DisCo, JavaFrames, ART, and Archimedes.

INARI project is funded by TEKES (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) and several companies: Nokia Research Center, Nokia Networks, John Deere, TietoEnator, and Plenware.
